Reflections of a Quiet Moon. Sculptural Ceramic Vessel No 5.
Moon gazing got me thinking, why do we feel connected to the moon, when it is so far away?
A beacon, an orb so vast and ethereal, sitting in its inky abyss, looking up to it, makes me feel so small.
It brings us a sense of serenity, peace and tranquillity, which feels so comforting.
This series of vessels draws inspiration from the gentle luminosity of moonlight, evoking a sense of serenity and wonder.
Each piece is handmade, adding many layers of glazes and oxides, and fired in my kiln multiple times to create depth, capturing the subtle reflected luminosity of moonlight.
They have been thrown on my potter’s wheel, and their tops then adjusted with sculptural elements, depicting flower petals and natural rock formations. Their colours lean into the natural world, bringing a feeling of calm and reflection.
